All the data and current figures of Professional Women's Soccer in Argentina

Women’s Soccer became professional in Argentina in 2019 and since then the foundations have been laid for the growth of the activity. FIFA made its evaluation reports and together with the Womens Report (FIFPro 2020) and the AFA, they revealed the current figures of the discipline in the country.

Currently the League is made up of 19 teams: Defensores de Belgrano, Deportivo Español, SAT (Social Atlético Televisión), Independiente, Estudiantes de La Plata, River Plate, UAI Urquiza, Rosario Centra, Excursionistas, San Lorenzo, Boca Juniors, Lanús, El Porvenir, Gimnasia de La Plata, Racing Club, Villa San Carlos, Platense, Huracán and Comunicaciones.

The season lasts ten months, a total of 210 matches are played with an average attendance of 300 people per matches and with an average age of the players of 23 years. The National Team is ranked 32nd in the FIFA rankings.

The data was extracted from FIFA by Guillermina Lazzari, former Boca Juniors player and coach and current member of the SAT coaching staff.

Within the most relevant and raw data, we find that only 33% of the professional players have as their main income the salary they persist and 45% receive it monthly.

What’s more, only 42% of the players have the contract in writing and all 19 teams are affiliated with clubs that have men’s teams.

Another worrying percentage is that of professionally licensed coaches taking over the teams. 57% of those who command the groups do not have the aforementioned training carried out.

The most encouraging data revealed by FIFA is that 88% of the teams have grassroots structures.

Argentine women’s football accelerated its growth and development in the last two years since its professionalization. Although several projects were promoted from FIFA, there is still a long way to go, but the foundations for the future seem auspicious.
