Braves: Dominican Huascar Ynoa out with swollen shoulder

LOS ANGELES – Less than three hours before the start of Game 4 of the National League Championship Series at Dodger Stadium, the Atlanta Braves removed pitcher Huascar Ynoa from responsibility for starting against the Los Angeles Dodgers due to inflammation. on his right shoulder.

Right-hander Jesse Chavez replaced Ynoa to start what manager Brian Snitker described as “a bullpen day” for his team. Mexican lefty Julio Urías is the starter for the Dodgers. Atlanta dominates the series 2-1.

Snitker said Ynoa’s shoulder felt tight this afternoon and they didn’t want to risk her trying to pitch.

The Major League Baseball (MLB) commissioner’s office said it approved the Braves replacing Ynoa with left-hander Dylan Lee on their roster for the National League final. MLB Medical Director Dr. Gary Green confirmed the injury after contacting the evaluating physician.

MLB postseason rules state that a club may request permission from the commissioner to replace a player who is unable to play due to injury. MLB may approve or disapprove the request based on specific facts and circumstances. According to the rules, Ynoa will not be eligible to return to the World Series if the Braves advance.

Ynoa, 23, was 4-6 with a 4.05 ERA in 17 starts during the regular season. The right-hander had a 3.02 ERA with 50 strikeouts and 11 walks in 44.2 innings when he broke his hand hitting a bench after being removed from a game against the Milwaukee Brewers on May 16.

He has only worked one inning in the postseason.
