Seahawks claim Jacob Eason via waivers, after discharge from Colts

With Russell Wilson’s injury, Seattle has added depth at position with the 2020 fourth-round pick

The Seattle Seahawks they claimed the quarterback Jacob Eason on Wednesday, a day after being released by the Indianapolis Colts.

Eason joins his hometown team to shore up depth in position while Russell wilson recovering from finger surgery. With Wilson on the injured reserve list, the Seahawks now they have Geno Smith and Eason in its 53-man staff, as well as Jake luton and Danny Etling in the practice squad.

A fourth-round recruit from Washington in 2020, Eason appeared in one game this season, completing 2 of 5 pass attempts for 25 yards and an interception, replacing an injured Carson wentz in Week 2. He didn’t hit the field as a rookie. The Colts they released him after activating the rookie quarterback Sam ehlinger from the injured reserve list.

Eason (Lake Stevens) and Luton (Marysville) are from neighboring towns north of Seattle. According to the web portal of the Seahawks, played together for the same flag football team as boys, before facing off in high school and college as rivals, Eason in UW and Luton in Oregon State.

Wilson he must miss at least two more games before he can return from injured reserve. It is not clear their the Seahawks they plan to have Eason or Luton -who has greater familiarity in the system- as substitutes for Smith in the meantime.

Luton, who was signed before the season opener, was promoted from the practice squad last weekend to fill in for Smith in the defeat of Seattle overtime against Pittsburgh steelers. He has since been reverted to the practice squad and may be elevated once more before the Seahawks must sign him to their 53-man roster in order to have him available on game day.

The Seahawks had a vacancy on the squad after releasing the cornerback Tre Flowers last week, and therefore did not need to make a corresponding move to add to Eason.
