Patrice Evra reveals that he was abused during his childhood: "I was ashamed to admit it"

Patrice Evra tells in his book the episode of abuse he suffered by a teacher with whom he shared a house

Former French footballer Patrice Evra revealed that, at age 13, he was sexually abused by a teacher he lived with, who offered him a free room inside his house to make it easier for him to attend school.

“The teacher, thinking that I had fallen asleep, put his hands under my duvet and tried to touch me. He knew he was doing something wrong, so I tried to push him and hit him,” he wrote in his book ‘I love this game’.

In said story, The former Juventus footballer delved into the actions of that person and revealed that he had the opportunity to report him, but lied to the police because of fear.

“When I was playing for Monaco, the police called me. Some children had complained about this man and the police wanted to know if he had tried to do something to me. As he was famous and was afraid of the reaction, I lied and said no,” he recalled.

Currently, Evra is 40 years old and looks at what happened with new eyes. The Frenchman says he regrets reporting his attacker when he had the opportunity and decided to tell her story to help other people who had similar experiences.

In an interview with The Times newspaper, the former United player also revealed that just two weeks ago his mother found out about what happened.

“The first thing my mother said was: ‘If you did not report, I will do it; if he is still alive, I will kill him.’ I know that my mother and the people in my family will look and see if they can report. But I have buried this so deeply that I do not think about it, “he concluded.
