Michele Lamaro was appointed as captain of Italy

Michele Lamaro has been named new captain of Italy before the next international window. The third row, who has won seven games with Azzurra, debuted against France in November 2020 and replace the hooker Luca bigi as a team leader that will play against Los Pumas on November 13 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

The young forward started five starting chances with the number 8 on his back during Six Nations 2021 and new head coach Kieran Crowley has entrusted him with the responsibility of leading the team at just 23 years old.

Currently, Lamaro is one of the figures of Benetton Treviso, where he is also co-captain, for the last four years and has experience in the captaincy with Italy U-17, U-18 and U-20.

The staff and players of the Italian team received the news at the beginning of the last training session in Verona. The third row will lead Italy for the first time against New Zealand on November 6, then (on the 13th) they will face Los Pumas in Rome and will close the series on the 20th against Uruguay.
