Astros activate Marwin González for World Series

HOUSTON – The Houston Astros activated Marwin González on the roster that begins the World Series this Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves at Minute Maid Park.

Gonzalez will fill outfielder Jake Meyers’ roster spot, still convalescing from a left shoulder injury he sustained when he crashed into the wall in Game 4 of the Division Series against the White Sox.

Gonzalez was officially enlisted as an infielder, but he can actually play the outfield as well thanks to his versatile defensive versatility, in which he has been in almost every position except pitcher and catcher.

The 32-year-old Venezuelan was part of the 2017 World Series champion team of the Astros, for which he played and had his greatest success in the Major Leagues from 2012 to 2018. In 2019, he signed a two-year contract with the Minnesota. Twins.

This season began with the Boston Red Sox, who cut him in August and a few days later he was hired again by the Astros.

Gonzalez has not participated in the current postseason, but in 14 regular-season games he batted .176.

The Astros included 16 pitchers, two receivers, six infielders and five outfielders on their 26-man roster for the World Series.

URQUIDY IS THE MOST LIKELY FOR GAME 2

The Astros face Game 1 at their stadium this Tuesday. For the second in the series, the likely starting pitcher will be Mexican José Urquidy.

The Mexican already had a postseason outing in the Championship Series against the Boston Red Sox, who scored five earned runs in just 1 2/3 innings.

The Astros have not officially confirmed Urquidy, but are expected to do so Tuesday afternoon at manager Dusty Baker’s press conference.

Urquidy was announced to offer a press conference also on Tuesday afternoon …
