Cardinals crush Sharks and remain undefeated in LVBP

The Lara Cardinals unleashed a 14-hitter offense on Tuesday, en route to a comfortable 9-0 victory over the Tiburones de la Guaira, to remain undefeated after three games in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League.

Jermaine Palacios remained on fire and batted 4-4 with three runs scored, Carlos Rivero went 4-2 with two doubles and two RBIs, Yordanis Linares 4-2 with two RBIs and Alberto Callaspo 4-1, also with two RBIs.

The victory went to Williams Pérez (1-0), after throwing five scoreless episodes allowing just three hits with three fans. Eudis Idrogo lost (0-1) after allowing two runs and four hits in three innings.

In Porlamar, the Caracas Lions had an offense of 16 hits, including two homers, and defeated Margarita’s Braves 13-7.

Romer Cuadrado hit a bases-loaded homer, Wilfredo Tovar went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs, while Yosmany Guerra was 6-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs.

Felix Carvallo (2-0) retired one and a third innings without allowing a reliever touchdown to claim the win. The disaster went to the record of Jhenderson Hurtado (0-1), punished with three runs in just two-thirds of the inning.

In a tight match in Maracaibo, Denis Phipps hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th inning to break a tie, and the Tigres de Aragua defeated the Águilas del Zulia 2-1.

The victory went to Geoff Broussard (1-0) with a blank chapter in relief work. Luis Alberto Ramírez lost (0-1), after conceding the race difference in his two-thirds inning relay.
