Nicolás Jarry and Juan Manuel Cerúndolo, to the semifinals of the Lima Challenger 2

They won South American duels and advanced to the semifinals. The Chilean Nicolás Jarry and the Argentine Juan Manuel Cerúndolo prevailed this Friday and took another firm step in the Challenger of Lima 2, on brick dust.

After a week of excellent level at the Challenger in Buenos Aires, which was held at the Racket Club in Palermo and had local Sebastián Báez as champion, now the appointment took place in the capital of Peru.

In a Chilean clash, Jarry, now No. 202 in the world and former Top 40, defeated Alejandro Tabilo (174 °) by 7-6 (6) and 6-2. The first set was quite even and at the beginning of the second quarter the loser had an option to break when the third game was played and was 15-40, but the winner managed to get out of that situation.

In the next game it was Jarry who seized the opportunity and broke, then confirmed the break and went 4-1 up. Thus he won a duel that opened the way to the semifinals and his rival will be on Saturday the Czech Vit Kopriva (200th ATP), who on this day beat Chilean Tomás Barrios (145th) by 6-4, 1-6 and 6-0.

Meanwhile, Juan Manuel, the youngest of the Cerúndolo brothers, is making a good debut in the Top 100 of the ranking and the classification to the ATP Next Gen Finals. The Argentine, 94, 19 years old and being the second seed, beat the Bolivian Hugo Dellien (128th), seventh seeded, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (5) and 6-4.

On Saturday, Cerúndolo will face the winner of the closing duel of the quarterfinals, between the locals, the Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas (129 °), eighth seeded, and the Argentine Tomás Etcheverry (133 °), two players in upside and very good results this season.
