A goal from Ziyech served Chelsea to defeat Malmoe (0-1) on Tuesday at home with a discreet performance and put their qualification to the next round of the Champions League on track.
Although without much fanfare, Chelsea justified their status as favorites and did just enough to win over a combative rival who created little danger and ran out of real options when they were behind on the scoreboard.
Without Lukaku or Werner, Thomas Tuchel opted to place Havertz only on the front and Hudson-Odoi and Ziyech at the ends.
Chelsea monopolized the ball, as was predictable, but it was difficult for them to overcome a brave Malmoe, who threw order and sacrifice to minimize damage and not have too much trouble in the first half.
Ziyech and Havertz had the clearest scoring chances, but Dahlin avoided the goal of the English team, who failed to turn a pair of steals in the exit of the ball from their rival into danger.
Colak, a pass from Peru’s Peña, had Malmoe’s only chance on the brink of halftime, but his semi-volley shot went close to a post.
Malmoe came out more animated in the second half, who raised lines and wanted to dispute the ball more to Chelsea. But in a bad pass from Brorsson, Tuchel’s team mounted a brilliant counter, with a combination between Havertz and Hudson-Odoi and a great center from the latter that Ziyech pushed into an empty goal.
Malmoe, who could not count on their captain and brain Anders Christiansen, had little reaction capacity, tired, aware of the difference in potential and weighed down by the negative balance of goals (0-11) and three defeats in the tournament.
Silva, with a shot in a corner that Ahmedhozdic took under the goal, and Havertz were able to close the game, although Chelsea never feared for the draw and ended up sleeping the duel with the ball to ensure a victory that keeps them in the fight for the lead and leave Malmoe last and with almost no options to be even third.
