Barcelona officially announces Xavi as their next coach

The Blaugrana club announced through its social networks that its former player returns to the institution as technical director

Finally, the soap opera came to an end.

This Friday afternoon, Barcelona announced through its social networks that former midfielder Xavi Hernández will be its new technical director.

Barcelona will be led this weekend by Sergi Barjuan, who took over as interim coach to replace the recently dismissed Dutchman Ronald Koeman.

“I already knew my role in the club and I am very happy that my hand has been noticed,” Sergi declared this Friday before the match against Celta. “I knew it had an expiration date, but I’m happy. I have the last game left and from then on I will return to Barça B as planned.”

Barcelona is currently in ninth place in LaLiga with 16 points from 11 games and remains in contention to qualify for the next round in the UEFA Champions League.

Xavi, who leaves Al-Sadd at the top of the Qatari Super League table with three points ahead of Al-Duhail.

As Al-Sadd’s coach, Xavi won the Qatar Cup twice, in addition to a league, a Sheikh Jassim cup, Qatar Emir Cup and the Qatar Stars Cup.

Xavi had a successful stint in Barcelona from 1998 to 2015, winning everything with the club.

In total, he won LaLiga eight times, three King’s Cups, six Spanish Super Cups, four Champions League, two UEFA Super Cups and two Club World Cups.At the national level, he was also part of the golden generation that won two titles in the Euro and a World Cup with Spain.
