Águilas Cibaeñas defeats Tigres de Licey and leads the Dominican League

Zoilo Almonte resolved a tight duel on Friday with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning, and the Aguilas Cibaeñas beat the Tigres del Licey 5-4 to remain leaders of the Dominican Baseball League.

Ramón Torres was 4-2 with a double and two RBIs, and Leody Taveras was 4-1 with two RBIs.

Dario Álvarez (1-0) retired a batter to win the game. José Marte lost (0-1), after admitting the difference race and two hits in a third of the inning.

In Santo Domingo, Aderlin Rodríguez hit a solo homer, historic Albert Pujols went 4-1 with an RBI, while Joe Dunand and Ari González each contributed RBI singles in the Leones del Escogido 4-0 win over the Eastern Stars.

José López won (1-0) with one and a third inning in order, recording three strikeouts. Matt Pobereyko (0-1) fell, after conceding one run and two hits in one inning.

In La Romana, the Gigantes del Cibao defeated the Toros del Este 10-4. Juan Francisco was 3-2 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored, Kelvin Gutiérrez was 4-for-3 with two RBIs and Carlos Paulino went 3-for-1 with three RBIs.

Luis Santos (1-0) retired a scoreless inning to score the victory. The setback went to the record of Tyler Eppler (1-1), after allowing three touchdowns and five hits in two innings.

The Eagles lead the circuit with a 6-2 record, followed by Leones (5-3), Estrellas (4-4), Giants (4-4) Tigres (3-5), and Toros (2-6).
