Cerúndolo failed against Nakashima in the first match of the Next Gen Finals

Juan Manuel Cerúndolo (91st) lost to Brandon Nakashima (63rd) with partials of 4-1, 3-4 (3), 4-1, 4-0 in an hour and a half of play but it became the first Argentine and South American to go out on the court in the Next Gen Finals played in Milan, Italy.

The porteño, about to turn 20, showed good qualities in his debut on this surface at the ATP level. Even his last professional indoor cement match had been in January 2020. Likewise, his rival was superior: he dominated practically the entire game with his backhand on the court, shortening the points and serving really great; he did not yield break points in the entire match. In the third quarter, Cerúndlo was able to distribute with his right hand and increased his winning shots, but it was not enough.

He and Nakashima -for now group A leader- will play their second match at the Next Gen Finals on Wednesday. The Spanish Carlos Alcaraz and the Danish Holger Rune, both in the 2003 category, complete the area and seek a ticket to the semifinals in the city of fashion.
