Manuel Ugarte spoke at a press conference about his new call to the Uruguayan National Team, with which he is already training for the next double date of the Qualifiers where Celeste will face Argentina this Friday and Bolivia on Tuesday 16. For his part, the midfielder Fernando Gorriarán analyzed the present of Maestro Tabárez’s team in Radio Sport.
Ugarte made his debut in Uruguay on Sunday, September 5, against Bolivia at the Campeón del Siglo stadium, then he was not cited for the triple date of October and now he was called again by Tabárez for these two November games.
“I am very happy to be here again, the idea is always to try to leave the best performance for the amount of steering wheels that there are, staying in the group is another prize,” said the former Fénix midfielder, currently at Sporting Lisbon.
The 20-year-old footballer said about his prospects for these next matches: “I feel prepared, but at the moment we are in, the fundamental thing is to try to add no matter who plays. It will be two very important games, there is less and less margin and we will try to do our best ”.
Regarding the doubts about the continuity of Maestro Tabárez that were generated in October, Ugarte said: “I did not get into that much because I think it is not something that corresponds to me, but I am very happy with the decision that was made (the continuity of the Teacher). Now I really want to add minutes personally, but more than anything that the team can score points ”.
The midfielder also spoke about his growth in Portuguese football, which he arrived in in December 2020 signing for Famaliçao, a club where he played until August this year when he signed for Sporting Lisbon.
“This change helped me a lot, especially mentally because you have to change your mind, Sporting Lisboa is a team that always fights important things, it takes time to adapt, but little by little I’m getting more involved in what the club is. Seba (Coates) was very important for my adaptation, both inside and outside the club, ”said Ugarte.
And he affirmed: “In terms of football, he has given me a lot because in my position I have two or three of the best midfielders I have seen and that also enriches me. I think I feel more comfortable playing with a steering wheel next to it, a double five, but if I had to do it alone I would not have a problem ”.
GORRIARÁN: “ONE TRIES TO LEARN FROM THE GREATEST”
In turn, midfielder Fernando Gorriarán, also part of the blue team, commented this Tuesday on the program ‘100% Deporte’ (Radio Sport 890): “Obviously one tries to learn from the greatest, it is not a great moment for us because perhaps it was not the best triple date in October, but you listen and become aware of what we are experiencing and try to contribute from wherever you play ”.
“I have always said it, it is a very complicated position because there are the best, in Uruguay there are midfielders with very good moments in their teams and at a high level; One has to work, help and wait for the opportunity ”, admitted the Santos Laguna footballer.
Asked about the possibility of playing the game against Bolivia, Gorriarán said: “I never played in La Paz, but in Mexico there are many places with a certain height and it doesn’t cost me that much, yes maybe the humidity costs me more. I always try to help the team ”.
Finally, the former River commented that after this double date he will focus on the crossing between Santos and San Luis for the Mexican League, and referred to the present of the Uruguayan Nicolás ‘El Diente’ López, scorer of Tigres: going very well, it is good that the Uruguayans are doing well, they are in an important team and scoring goals. He is adapted to Mexican soccer and in a great moment ”.
