Juan Manuel Cerúndolo (91st in the world ranking) was surpassed by Holger Rune (109th) in the second match of Group A of the Next Gen Finals.
The Danish, solid with his right throughout the game, marked him out of Milan after one hour and fifteen minutes of play. He beat it 4-1, 4-2, 1-4 and 4-1.
With nothing to reproach himself and with a huge experience under his shoulders, the 19-year-old tennis player from Buenos Aires had no chances to qualify for the semifinals. The lack of custom on this surface and the obvious fatigue after a strenuous season played against the Argentine, who could not maintain the rhythm set by the European for much of the game.
Rune, champion of four Challenger this year, he made a difference from the start with a pure winning shot and was a clear winner. Juanma, however, who made his indoor debut in this tournament, had his chances and managed to win the third set after several mistakes made by his rival, who until then had not shown any cracks in his game.
The Argentine’s next match (he lost to Nakashima in the first match) will be against Carlos Alcaraz, the top favorite for the title and current 32 in the world. For his part, Rune will seek a place in the semifinals against the North American.
