Alexander Zverev and Matteo Berrettini will close the first day of the ATP Finals with the color and Italian warmth that a match as such deserves. From 5pm, like the whole tournament, it can be followed by STAR +.
While Zverev has a bit more experience in this season finale competition winning the event in 2018 he cannot be neglected with local credit. The third seed (Olympic champion in Tokyo) is among the favorites to lift the trophy this year considering their recent success in Vienna.
Berrettini is making his second appearance at the event having previously appeared in 2019. The Italian was unable to qualify for the knockout rounds on that occasion and will hope to do better this year. He does not reach the top: he fell early in Indian Wells and could not make it to the quarter-finals in Vienna. A neck injury knocked him out of action at the Masters 1000 in Paris, and it remains to be seen whether he has fully recovered.
The German leads 3-1 in the head-to-head. Interestingly, three of the matches took place on clay and one on hard, which Zverev won (Shanghai 2019).
