Max Holloway and Yair Rodríguez make weight for UFC featherweight fight

LAS VEGAS – The fight that will define the next challenger at 145 pounds is official. Former champion Max Holloway (146 pounds) and Mexican Yair ‘Pantera’ Rodríguez (145.5 pounds) delivered at the weigh-in for their featherweight fight and are ready to meet this Saturday at UFC Apex in Las Vegas (1 p.m. ET, ESPN +).

Rodriguez, who has not fought since October 2019, was the first to step onto the scale after reaching fight week at 155 pounds and in very good physical condition. It took Holloway a little over an hour inside the weigh-in window to show up, but he did so in high spirits and ready to put on a show in combat.

Later there was the first confrontation between the two, although they have been preparing for almost half a year for a fight that was originally scheduled for July 17 and was postponed due to an injury to the Hawaiian.

Mexican-born fighter Cynthia Calvillo scored 126 pounds for her fight against Andrea Lee (125.5) at flyweight, and Colombian Julio Arce scored 135.5 to face Chinese Song Yadong at bantamweight; In addition to Puerto Rican Miguel Baeza (170.5), he met on the scale to face Khaos Williams (169) at welterweight.

Spaniard Joel Alvarez failed for the second time on the scale weighing 157.5 pounds to face Brazilian Thiago Moises at lightweight, as did Georgian Liana Jojua, who rose 127.5 for her second flyweight fight against Cortney Casey. Both were fined 30 percent of their purse.
