Brilliant triumph for Hugo Dellien at the Uruguay Open. The Bolivian, current number 130 in the world, champion was consecrated in Montevideo after sweeping 6-1 and 6-0 to Juan Ignacio Londero (159th).
For those born in the city of Trinidad, almost 600 km from La Paz, this triumph meant the second title in this 2021. Two months ago he had lifted the Lima Challenger trophy, curiously against another Argentine: Camilo Ugo Carabelli.
Dellien’s path to the title in Uruguay began with a comfortable victory over local tennis player Francisco Llanes 6-2, 6-4. In the second round, he had to face difficult Kazakh Timofey Skatov, who forced the outcome of the match in the third set. The final score ended with a 6-4, 4-6 and 6-3 in favor of the South American.
And from quarters to semis, all the rivals were entirely Argentine. In the quarters Facundo Bagnis (7-6 (4), 4-1 and retirement), Federico Coria (2-6, 7-6 (5) and 7-6 (4)) and the aforementioned Londero.
Thanks to this victory in Montevideo, Dellien will climb ten positions and will be ranked 120th in the world rankings. The Bolivian seeks to continue growing and return to his best position that he had at the beginning of 2020: 72 °.
