Marlins acquire right-hander Louis Head in trade with Tampa Bay

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins acquired right-hander Louis Head from the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday in exchange for a later determined player or cash.

Head appeared in 27 games for the Rays last season, two of them in starts. He was 2-0 with a 2.31 ERA in 35 innings, striking out 32, allowing 21 hits and giving up nine walks. Opponents hit .175 against Head, who hadn’t played in the major leagues before 2021.

The 31-year-old pitcher was selected in the 18th round by the Cleveland Indians in 2012.

The Marlins created room for Head by removing outfielder Brian Miller from their 40-man roster.
