Sultanes is the only undefeated in the Second Round of the Mexican Pacific League

MONTERREY – Roberto Valenzuela hit 4-2 with two RBIs and Anthony Giansanti went 3-2 with an RBI, backing up a solid start by Luis Gámez, in the Sultanes de Monterrey 3-1 win over the Aguilas from Mexicali on Sunday in the Mexican Pacific League.

The victory kept the Sultans the only undefeated at the end of the first series of the Second Round of the season, by sweeping the Eagles in all three games.

Gamez (4-2) allowed just one run and four hits in six innings to add one more victory to his record. Vidal Nuño lost (1-2) despite going seven innings of three runs, seven hits and five strikeouts.

The Eagles were led by Venezuelan Lino Connell in all three games and as of Tuesday they host Mayos de Navojoa they will already have Gil Velázquez as manager.

In Ciudad Obregón, the Tomateros de Culiacán, reigning two-time champions of the Mexicana del Pacífico, had an explosive day of 19 hits to sign a comfortable 12-3 victory over the Yaquis of Ciudad Obregón.

Dairon Blanco was 4-for-3 with two RBIs, Sebastián Elizalde went 3-2 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs, and Antonio Lamas drove in two touchdowns with a double for the Tomateros.

José Bravo (2-0) won with five innings of two runs, eight hits and five strikeouts, and Eddie Gamboa lost (0-2) after being punished with eight touchdowns and 12 hits in just 3 1/3 innings.

At Navojoa, Justin Dean hit a two-run homer and Maikel Serrano added a solo homer to propel the Mayos to a 4-2 win over the Venados de Mazatlán.

Octavio Acosta (3-1) allowed two runs and eight hits in five innings to win the game, while the disaster went to the record of Ignacio Marrujo (1-2), who was punished with four touchdowns and nine hits in four episodes.

In Jalisco, the Charros stacked 17 hits in an offensive display to comfortably defeat the Algodoneros de Guasave 13-3.

Dariel Álvarez hit 5-2 with a home run and three RBIs, Agustín Murillo went 3-3 with two RBIs, Alejandro Osuna was 4-3 with two RBIs, Julián Ornelas 5-3 with two RBIs and Amadeo. Zazueta with a solo homer led the Charros to victory.

Adrián Guzmán (3-2) covered five innings of just one run and five hits for the win. The setback went to Dalton Rodríguez (1-3) by conceding four touchdowns and eight hits in four innings.

At Los Mochis, Alejo López hit 3-2 with three RBIs, Eric Meza went 5-2 with two RBIs and Francisco Córdoba added a double two touchdowns to give the Cañeros a 10-4 victory over the Naranjeros de Hermosillo .

The veteran former MLB pitcher, Édgar González (1-3), had his best start of the season and won for the first time with a six-inning effort in which he allowed just one run and three hits. The setback went to Ryan Verdugo (2-2), with four touchdowns and seven hits allowed in four innings.

Monterrey leads the Second Round with a 3-0 record, followed by Hermosillo, Culiacán, Jalisco and Mazatlán with 2-1, Navojoa, Guasave, Jalisco and Ciudad Obregón with 1-2 and Mexicali 0-3.
