Champions meet: Djokovic and Zverev for a place in the final

With the peace of mind of being classified, Novak Djokovic (No. 1) faced Cameron Norrie (12th) and crushed him in just over an hour of play with partials of 6-2 and 6-1. The Serbian, with three wins, went to the semifinals as the leader in the Green Group and will play his place in the final against Alexander Zverev (Nº3). The game will be played on Saturday from 17:00 (ARG) and can be seen on ESPN on Star +.

The German, in his last game, he beat the Pole Hubert Hurkacz (No. 9) with an authoritarian 6-2 and 6-4 and he qualified at the ATP Finals in Turin as second in the Red Group. With the Round Robin over and the four semi-finalists defined, a high-caliber commitment is expected between the Balkan (five times champion of the tournament) and “Sascha”, owner of the tournament in 2018.

The Hamburg-born, winner of five titles this year (Vienna, Cincinnati, Acapulco, Madrid and Tokyo Olympics), will meet for the fourth time in 2021 with the owner of 20 Grand Slam, who was left with three of those clashes. Zverev’s triumph, however, was special as it prevented the Serbian from winning gold at the Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Among them they have played 10 official matches: seven were held by Djokovic, while the remaining three went to the German. However, one of them occurred in the final of the 2018 ATP Finals, so Zverev is keen to eliminate it again.

The most recent clash was at the US Open, where “Nole” removed the thorn from Tokyo and beat it in the semifinals 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, 4-6 and 6-2. The other key will be played by the Russian Daniil Medvedev (No. 2) and the norwegian Casper Ruud (No. 8).
