Chicago Bears’ LB Khalil Mack to undergo season-ending foot surgery, says coach Matt Nagy

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Chicago Bears defensive standout Khalil Mack will undergo season-ending foot surgery, coach Matt Nagy announced Friday.

Mack originally hurt his foot in Chicago’s third game of the season, but then played injured for several more weeks. Eventually, the pain became too great and Mack was ruled out for the Bears’ final two games, against San Francisco and Pittsburgh.

The team hoped the bye week would help Mack’s foot heal, but the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday.

Mack had six sacks in seven games played.

“It is difficult for him [Mack] “said outside linebackers coach Bill Shuey.” I talked to him [el lunes] in the morning, and he’s in meetings and stuff. He is definitely eager to return. This is difficult for him. He loves to compete, and this is tough, especially the last two games he missed, we didn’t win. He always feels that there is something he could have done to help. “
