In a consecrating 2021, Norwegian Casper Ruud (No. 8) wants to finish the year with the title of “Master” at the ATP Finals. In the last game of the Green Group, defeated Russian Andrey Rublev (No. 5) in a game with 2-6, 7-5 and 7-6 (5) sets and earned a place in the top four of the tournament.
The Moscow-born started on fire and took the first set with forcefulness, based on aggressive tennis from the back of the court. However, when everything indicated that the match would end soon, especially when Rublev broke his rival’s serve at the beginning of the second set, the Nordic grew up and soared in the Pala Alpitour in Turin.
Thus, he stayed with the second set 7-5 and then, after two hours and 23 minutes, he achieved a great victory in the tie-breaker decisive set to become the first tennis player from his country to reach the semi-finals. In turn, he managed to defeat Rublev for the first time in his career, after registering four defeats in previous matches.
In this way, in addition, he prevented a Russian from being secured in the final of the tournament and will go for the sixth trophy in the 2021 season. With his classification, the four tennis players who will play the semifinals were confirmed: Serbian Novak Djokovic (No. 1), Russian Daniil Medvedev (No. 2) and German Alexander Zverev (No. 3 are the others who will fight for the title.
The Norwegian will face Daniil Medvedev, who has a favorable record (2-0) and qualified at this stage with three wins in the Red Group. The other key will star Djokovic and Zverev.
