At 32, Sean Soriano knows he has the great opportunity of his career in front of him. This Saturday he faces the Chinese Shayilan Nuerdanbieke at UFC Vegas 43 and despite his 14-7 record as a professional, he is still looking for his first victory in the Octagon.
In 2014, he made his UFC debut without success, three losses in three bouts that led him to make many changes. Today he trains in one of the best gyms in the world, like Sanford MMA in South Florida and feels in the best conditions of his career.
“In that first stage I was young, I wanted to show my kickboxing before MMA. Here is everything, not just fight standing, now I would say that I have the maturity. Less stress, I have been through many things, I have more experience, “he explained in an interview with ESPN Deportes.
Soriano did not throw in the towel despite the first stage and competed in local promotions, until the departure of Spanish Joel Álvarez due to a visa problem, opened the doors to fight at UFC 262 in Houston, on short notice, against Christos Giagos .
They weren’t ideal conditions, but now he considers that he was able to make his full camp, focused on the Chinese prospect.
“I feel prepared, now I had time, I prepared the entire summer for this fight. Thank God in my team we have the best of everything, the best fight, the best jiujitsu and the best kickboxing, I studied what little I could see, we made a great game plan with what we had, “he explained.
The fighter of a Dominican father and Spanish mother, was born in the United States, but is proud to represent the flags of his parents. Looking at experience, he knows that Shaylian will hardly overcome the challenge he faces every day in the gym.
“Help Michael Chandle, I’m one of his sparring partners, I worked a lot with Tial Thang (One Championship fighter), I did all the camp with him, Kamaru Usman is a great friend, but more like my big brother, so they they always help me in the gym and mentally. As we plan the fight, you learn ”, he detailed.
Shaylian, who is 19-7, is also seeking her first UFC victory this Saturday in Las Vegas in an event starring former champion Miesha Tate and Brazilian Ketlen Vieira.
