Sean Soriano: Irwin Rivera is motivated

Sean Soriano returns to the UFC octagon this Saturday, but in addition to his camp to face the Chinese Shayiln Nuerdanbieke, he was part of the legal process of his partner Irwin Rivera.

The Mexican fighter was released after spending the last 10 months in a detention center in Palm Beach County, as he attacked his sisters with a knife in a psychotic episode, which the court doctors described as unusual and after their evaluations, they considered that the chances of their recurrence are low.

Soriano and former Welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns were close to their family members at all times and were accepted as legal guardians to follow up on his recovery.

These first weeks have been very positive for everyone, Soriano shared with ESPN Deportes: “It was very difficult. Knowing Irwin so much, you know that it was not him, that he is not that person and the pain that everything caused to the family. That he was in jail. They are a family like I have never seen, the next day they were in favor of him, supporting him and that is something beautiful to see, it was very difficult, but I saw his family get closer and the love of a family is beautiful to see ”.

That unconditional support of his close ones marked the liberation process, even the verdict recommended that he return to his activities as an MMA fighter, where he had a fight against Rey Rodríguez in March, which would have been his fourth fight in the UFC.

“It is still difficult, we are working day by day, but we are happy that he is out and that he can do his things normally,” added the fighter of Dominican and Spanish origin.

Soriano and Burns have been in their corner for the fights. But now they have shown all their support for his recovery: “He was going to live with me, but the family moved quickly to Florida and everything accommodated him very well. But he will always have a house in my house, I see him as a brother, ”he explained.

For now they take advantage of the time in the gym and do not talk about a specific date of return, but he assures that Rivera, originally from the state of Mexico, has a clear intention to fight again and to change the negative perception that was unleashed on social networks After the incident, “A few days ago, he went to my house and we talked, he is also motivated to change the mentality that people have about him,” he shared.

Soriano faces Nuerdanbieke in the preliminaries of UFC Vegas 43 this Saturday at UFC Apex.
