Juan Lagares shines in Eagles beat Giants in Dominican Baseball League

Major League Baseball player Juan Lagares led the Águilas Cibaeñas offense, which had 16 hits and crushed the Gigantes del Cibao 18-3 on Saturday in the Dominican Baseball League.

Lagares played 112 games in center field for the Los Angeles Angels in the 2021 season, filling in for star Mike Trout, who was injured most of the season. On Saturday, he was 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and five RBIs.

The Eagles also had a home run and four RBIs by Zoilo Almonte and three hits with two RBIs and four runs scored by Ramón Torres.

The victory went to Wendolyn Bautista (3-0) after throwing five blank innings, of just two hits. Anthony Rienzo lost (1-2) after being punished with seven touchdowns and six hits in just one 2-3 inning.

In Santo Domingo, Junior Lake drove in two touchdowns with a double and Sandber Pimentel hit a solo home run for the Estrellas Orientales, who beat the Leones del Escogido 6-3.

Andy Otero (1-0) allowed one run and six hits in 5 2/3 innings to claim victory. The setback went to David Kubiak’s record (1-1), after allowing four notations and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings.

In La Romana, the Toros del Este blanked the Tigres del Licey 5-0. Raudy Read drove in two touchdowns with a double, Rodolfo Castro sent one more with a triple and Alen Hanson added an RBI double from another.

Las Estrellas lead the circuit with a record of 11-8, followed by Gigantes (11-9), Aguilas (10-9), Leones (9-10), Toros (9-10) and Tigres (8-12).
