Davis Cup: Colombia said goodbye winning

Colombia’s path ended in the 2021 Davis Cup Finals. The South American cast defeated the United States 2-1 in their last game of the series, but still could not qualify for the quarterfinals.

For group E, which was played in Turin and was won by Italy, Colombia had a bad start to the series. In the first match Nicolás Mejía could not beat Frances Tiafoe and fell by 4-6, 6-3 and 7-6 (7). With that result, the team led by Alejandro Falla no longer had a chance to qualify for the next instance. since the only result that served him as one of the best seconds was 3-0.

With the elimination already accomplished, Daniel Galán played against John Isner and beat him 6-3, 3-6 and 7-6 (5) so that Roberth Farah and Juan Sebastián Cabal also won 3-0 and retired Reilly Opelka and Jack Sock.

Although Colombia was eliminated despite having won, This triumph is historic for the South Americans considering that it is the second time in history that they have beaten the United States for the Davis Cup. The other occasion had been in 1974 for the American Zone when it was a 4-1 victory for the coffee growers in the series that was played in Bogotá.
