Luis Zubeldia will stop being the manager of Lanús

“This institution always deserves to walk the path of neatness. I want to announce that I will stop being the club’s manager when the contract ends in December. They were three beautiful years. I’m proud of what we did. “

Thus, this Thursday, at an emergency press conference, scheduled a few hours in advance, and in the middle of the Lanús Fan Day, in commemoration of the 14th anniversary of the title in the Apertura 2007, Luis Zubeldia announced his departure as Garnet’s coach. It will be effective when the Professional League ends.

In another section of the conference, the coach added that “I remember the first talk with the squad, how much energy had to be given to the institution to be where we deserve all of us who belong to the Lanús world. I want to thank the fans, everyone, and the squad. Also thank the leadership, who have always been good to us and have made the club better and better. We know that better times are coming. This is my home and it will always be. When you need me in the future, I’ll be there “, said the DT with emotion.

From his departure from Lanús, rumors indicate that Zubeldia could be the one targeted by the San Lorenzo leadership to become the next coach of the first team from 2022.

In the last matches of the championship, against Rosario Central and Defensa y Justicia, he will seek to ensure the team’s classification for the next edition of the Copa Sudamericana. Only one point of the next six in dispute will be enough for that to happen.

In this way, he will culminate his second cycle at Lanús, the club that saw him born and grew as a player and coach. In total, at the moment, he directed 119 games after his return in 2018, with 53 wins, 26 equalities and 40 defeats; an effectiveness of 51.8% of the points obtained.

Jorge Almirón would be the main option for the Lanús leadership to replace Zubeldía in 2022. The DT comes from an experience in Spanish football directing Elche and is currently free. In the Garnet he was champion in 2016 and left a great memory.
