Sources: Padres sign pitcher Nick Martinez for 4 years and $ 20 million

The San Diego Padres and right-hander Nick Martinez have agreed to a four-year, $ 20 million contract, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Martinez’s agreement includes exit options after his first and second years.

The 31-year-old Martinez spent the past four seasons in Japan and this year shone with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, posting a 1.62 ERA. He previously played four major league seasons, all with the Texas Rangers from 2014-17, and was 17-30 with a 4.77 ERA.

Martinez also won a silver medal while playing for Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics.
