Appoint Shamil Tarpischev in the history of Russian tennis it is synonymous with mentioning a legend. And boy, does it get bigger with the passage of time. Is that against Germany, for the semifinals of the 2021 edition of the Davis cup, the captain of the Russian team completed no more and no less than 100 series in command of the team.
His arrival occurred in 1974 as captain of the Soviet Union tennis team until 1991. In 1992 he took command of the Commonwealth of Independent States after the dissolution of the Eurasian country and in 1997 he returned to captain the Russia team to this day.
With Tarpischev at the helm, Russia lifted two Davis Cups: 2002 and 2006. In the first, leaving Switzerland, Sweden, Argentina and France in the final. In that decisive match he had as players Marat Safin, Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Mikhail Yuzhny. On the other hand, in the other edition it was consecrated after they beat the Netherlands, France, the United States and Argentina in Moscow.
