The WTA published the tournament schedule for the first half of the 2022 season, which covers the Australian summer from January to the end of the traditional Wimbledon in July. Thus, the players and fans already have the defined program for the first six months of next year.
The 49th year of the WTA will begin in Australia, with the Adelaide International and two 250 tournaments in Melbourne to be played in the first week. In the next, the tour heads to the Sydney Tennis Classic, while a second Adelaide International will take place in parallel, before the Australian Open begins the week of January 17.
The WTA Tour will follow its traditional structure for the next several months until the end of the grass court tour at Wimbledon, with details of the remaining sections of the schedule to be released at a later time.
The first half of the season will feature WTA 1000 events at the Qatar Total Energies Open (Doha), BNP Paribas Open (Indian Wells), Miami Open presented by Itaú, Mutua Madrid Open and the Internazionali BNL d’Italia (Rome), together with eight WTA 500 events and at least 15 WTA 250 events.
“The 2022 WTA tour schedule will once again provide a prestigious setting for the world’s best female tennis players to compete,” said Steve Simon, WTA President and CEO.
“We are excited to kick off the new season and build on the popularity and legacy of our tournaments as we watch our rising stars and talents show off their skills to more than 850 million fans around the world,” added the manager.
