Carolina tips Santurce fourth straight backhand in Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League

Brian Navarreto hit a two-run homer to cap a three-touchdown attack in the bottom of the eighth, and the Carolina Giants beat the Santurce Cangrejeros 5-2 on Tuesday, who have now lost four straight games in the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League of Puerto Rico.

Anthony Garcia also hit a two-run homer and Ozzie Martinez added a one-run RBI single to complement the winners’ attack.

Oliver Mateo (1-0) was the winner with a blank inning in relief work. Joshua Torres (2-3) lost, punished with three runs and four hits in just one episode.

In Mayagüez, RA12 took advantage of the Mayagüez Indios’ erratic defense to score two runs in the top of the 11th inning and won 5-3.

Catcher Xavier Fernández commented on an error following a sacrifice bunt by Edwin Arroyo, and on the next play he was unable to catch first baseman JT Rivera’s shot off a Robby Enríquez ground to allow a run to be scored. Enriquez himself scored the second run of the inning to ensure the victory of RA12 thanks to a shot to the box by Bryan Miranda.

Francisco López Soto won (1-0) with a solid relief of 3 1/3 innings in which he allowed only one hit and one run. Robby Rowland (0-3) took the loss after conceding two dirty touchdowns in one inning.

Criollos de Caguas lead the circuit with a 13-7 record, followed by Indios de Mayagüez (13-8), Cangrejeros de Santurce (11-10), RA12 (8-13) and Gigantes de Carolina (7-14).
