Tottenham outbreak grows: eight infected players

The COVID outbreak at Tottenham grew and there are already thirteen people infected at the club, eight of them players.

This has led the team led by Antonio Conte to ask for the postponement of their meeting this weekend against Brighton & Hove Albion. The one that seems to go ahead, as confirmed by UEFA on Wednesday, will be the Conference League match against Rennes.

“Every day we are having more positives,” Conte said at a press conference. “Everyone is a little scared. People have families and I do not understand why we have to take this risk,” added the Italian in reference to Thursday’s game.

“Today there have been two more positives. Tomorrow? Who knows. Maybe I, I don’t know. Surely it is better if I take a player, but I think this is not the right thing to do.”

The Tottenham outbreak comes at a time when the UK is recording the highest number of cases since the summer, in the context of the new omicron variant. In addition, the Premier League announced a total of twelve positives this week, the highest since mid-August.
