Sources: Rick Carlisle, Indiana Pacers coach, to miss multiple games after positive test for COVID-19

Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle will miss several games after testing positive for a PCR test for COVID-19, sources told ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

Carlisle will miss his first meeting against the Dallas Mavericks, the team he coached for 13 seasons before resigning last offseason on Friday.

Assistant coach Lloyd Pierce will act as head coach in Carlisle’s absence. After Friday, the Pacers are free until Monday against the Golden State Warriors. They have three games scheduled next week.

Carlisle entered NBA health and safety protocols Thursday after testing positive on a rapid test, sources said. The Pacers also canceled Thursday’s practice out of “too much caution.”

A source said Thursday that Carlisle, 62, who is fully vaccinated and received a booster shot, was experiencing “mild symptoms.”

Carlisle is in his second spell with the Pacers, whom he also coached from 2003 to 2007, making three playoff appearances in four seasons.
