Navegantes beat Lions and is first classified to the playoffs in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League

The Navegantes del Magallanes scored seven times in the fifth inning and defeated the Leones del Caracas 10-6 on Saturday to become the first team to qualify for the postseason in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League.

Alberto Rodríguez was 4-2 with a double and two RBIs, Nellie Rodríguez was 4-2 with two RBIs and Carlos Pérez added another double to drive in two more.

Erick Leal (4-1) covered five 1/3 innings of four touchdowns and seven hits, but took advantage of offensive support to win the game. The loss went to Gerson Garabito (1-1), after allowing three touchdowns and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings.

In Puerto La Cruz, a solid start by Liarvis Breto led the Anzoátegui Caribes to a 4-2 win over the Águilas del Zulia to maintain their postseason aspirations.

Breto (2-0) allowed only two runs and one hit in 5 2/3 innings to win the game. He walked two and struck out 10.

The setback went to the record of Braulio Torres-Pérez (0-4), after allowing four touchdowns and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Tomás Telis was 3-2 with a double and solo homer, José López went 3-2 with a double and RBI, while Asdrúbal Cabrera added another RBI with a single.

At Maracay, Édgar Durán hit a bases-loaded homer to cap a five-touchdown attack in the top of the ninth innings, and the La Guaira Sharks rallied to beat the Aragua Tigres 6-4.

Edubray Ramos won (1-0) with a perfect one-inning relief. Henry Rodríguez (1-1) lost, punished with three touchdowns in just two-thirds inning.

The Navegantes lead the circuit with a 27-13 mark followed by Cardinals (24-16), Lions (23-18), Braves (20-20), Tigers (20-21), Caribs (20-21), Sharks ( 14-26) and Águilas (14-27).
