The star of UConn, Paige Bueckers, underwent surgery Monday afternoon to repair a fracture of the anterior base of the tibia and a tear in the lateral meniscus. It is estimated that the time for her return will be eight weeks from Monday, which would make her available in early February.
Bueckers suffered the injury on December 5 during the last minute of UConn’s game against rival Notre Dame. At the time of his injury, Bueckers led the Huskies in points, assists and steals.

The possibility of surgery was made public on December 11, when coach Geno Auriemma recognized it after UConn’s 71-61 victory over UCLA.
UConn is 1-1 without Bueckers. In addition to beating UCLA, the Huskies lost to Georgia Tech 57-44 on December 9, snapping a 239-game winning streak against unrated opponents.
UConn’s current 7th ranking is the program’s lowest since 2007.
