Estrellas spin 3rd defeat, when they fell to Águilas, and complicates classification in Dominican League

Ramón Torres and Juan Lagares wore the wood, and the Águilas Cibaeñas prevailed 6-4 over the Estrellas Orientales, who scored their third loss and have compromised their chances of advancing to the postseason in the Dominican Baseball League.

Torres was 4-2 with three RBIs and one scored, while Lagares was 5-2 with two RBIs.

Wandy Peralta (3-0) took the win with 1 2/3 inning without allowing a touchdown. The loss went to Henry Sosa (0-2), punished with two runs in just a third of the inning.

In Santo Domingo, Hanser Alberto hit a solo home run and Moisés Sierra hit 3-2 with two RBIs to lead the Gigantes del Cibao to their fifth consecutive victory, 4-0 over the Tigres del Licey.

The victory went to Jim Fuller (2-0), after retiring the only batter he faced. Albert Abreu (3-3) fell, punished with four touchdowns and five hits in 2 1/3 innings.

In La Romana, Juan Gratrerol hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning to knock out the Leones del Escogido, and the Toros del Este escaped with a 5-4 victory although they are already eliminated from the competition.

Trailing by a touchdown in the ninth inning, the Bulls attacked experienced Major League pitcher Fernando Rodney with an RBI single by Steven Moya to tie the game and won it on Graterol’s fly.

Tim Peterson (1-0) completed a one-episode blank relay to win the game. The setback went to Rodney (0-1), who gave up three walks, one hit and two runs without taking outs in his relief.

With three dates to go, the Giants lead the circuit with a 21-16 record, followed by Águilas (20-17), Tigres (19-18), Estrellas (19-18), Leones (18-19) and Toros ( 14-23).
