Orioles announces Fredi González as bench coach

BALTIMORE – Fredi González will take on a new role with the Baltimore Orioles, becoming the team’s bench coach.

The Orioles announced their major league coaching staff for 2022 on Tuesday and said Gonzalez would change from major league manager to bench coach. Baltimore named Matt Borgschulte and Ryan Fuller as hitting co-coaches, and Jose Hernandez goes from assistant hitting coach to Major League Baseball coach. The rest of the coaches remain in their same positions.

González managed the Marlins from 2007 to 2010 and the Braves from 2011 to 2016.

Borgschulte comes from the Minnesota Twins organization, where he spent the last four seasons. He was the hitting coach for Triple-A St. Paul in 2021.

Fuller was promoted from Bowie Double-A, where he spent last season as Baysox’s hitting coach and the Orioles’ full-season hitting coordinator.
