Zurdo Ramírez quiere pelear en contra de Canelo Álvarez

Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez assured that at some point he will have a fight against Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez if the tapatío goes up to 175 pounds.

“I think that fight is going to happen at some point”, responded in an interview with the podcast The DAZN Boxing Show. “If it goes down, if it stays at light heavy, I think that fight can be given.”

Eddy reynoso, coach and manager of Saul, made a formal request to the CMB to challenge the cruiserweight champion, Ilunga Makabu. The Congolese will defend the scepter against Thabiso Mchunu next January 29, 2022.

The only time the boxer from Guadalajara fought at light heavyweight was in November 2019, when he went from middleweight to 175 pounds. Faced Sergey Kovalev by the belt of the AMB and defeated him by knockout in the eleventh round.

For its part, Lefty Ramirez will make his fourth fight in light heavyweight next Saturday against Yunieski González, in function of Golden Boy Promotions, in San antonio, texas.

“He wants to become a legend, he wants to get another title fighting in five different divisions,” said the Sinaloan about Canelo. “That’s what I think you want to do. It would be great as a boxer, because all boxers want to make history, they want to do that. I think it’s a bit too small for that division, but anything is possible ”.

A possible fight between Canelo Álvarez and Zurdo Ramírez

Gilberto look for that at some point Canelo fight again at 175 pounds to challenge him. Until now, Ramirez has three knockouts in that division and the match against Gonzalez is eliminatory for the belt of the AMB.

Dmitry Bivol is the current monarch who has that scepter and already Lefty Ramirez challenged him on occasion. Now a victory against Yunieski I’d put it on the line before Bivol.

Gilberto Ramirez was super middleweight champion in April 2016 when he defeated Arthur Abraham by unanimous decision. He made five defenses and then moved up to light heavy.
