Falcons vs. 49ers - Game Report - December 19, 2021

SANTA CLARA (AP) – Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 235 yards and a score, San Francisco had three more rushing touchdowns and the 49ers won for the fifth time in six games, defeating the Atlanta Falcons 31-13 on Sunday.

The Niners (8-6) put together four offensive series culminating in scoring to keep their chances of clinching a wild-card spot open by beating the Falcons (6-8) and ranking sixth in the NFC.

Atlanta was stopped at the goal line on its first possession of the game and fumbled on a Nick Bosa sack in the first drive of the second half.

This helped San Francisco take control and take advantage of good field position to go 39 yards and take a 24-10 lead through Jeff Wilson Jr. on a five-yard carry.

The Falcons settled for a field goal in the red zone on their next offense when pressure from Arden Key forced Matt Ryan to throw an incomplete pass at third and goal.

San Francisco responded with a 65-yard offensive drive capped by a four-yard touchdown pass from Garoppolo to Jauan Jennings. Kyle Juszczyk and Deebo Samuel had other touchdown runs in the first half.

Ryan threw for 236 yards on a 20-yard touchdown pass to Russell Gage in the first half, but was under constant pressure for much of the game.
