The UFC is rescheduling a middleweight bout between Jared Cannonier and Derek Brunson for UFC 271 on February 12, multiple sources told ESPN.
The 185-pound fight was originally scheduled to be at UFC 270 on January 22, however the promotion wanted to have it on the same card as the Israel Adesanya-Robert Whittaker middleweight title fight, which was added. recently at UFC 271 on February 12 in Houston.
Cannonier (14-5) and Brunson (23-7) are the No. 3 and No. 4 middleweights in the UFC, respectively.
Cannonier is 4-1 in his last five bouts, with the only loss coming against a former champion at Whittaker. It is coming off a win over Kelvin Gastelum in August.
Brunson has a five-game win streak, including main event fights against Edmen Shahbazyan, Kevin Holland and Darren Till.
The middleweight title fight between Adesanya and Whittaker is a rematch of a 2019 championship match. If something happens to Adesanya or Whittaker, Cannonier or Brunson may be called up to the main event.
