First wild cards for the Australian Open

The Australian Open on Wednesday revealed the first invitations for the 2022 edition.

There they included eight-time Grand Slam champion Sam Stosur, Daria Gavrilova (now Saville), Maddison Inglis and Storm Sanders to compete in the single main draw from January 17-30 at Melbourne Park.

StosurChampion of the US Open 2011 and once world number 4, she managed to win another seven Grand Slam tournaments between doubles and mixed. He will play, no less, his 20th Australian Open at the age of 37. He knew how to reach the round of 16 twice (2006 and 2010).

Gavrilova, now listed as Saville since she married Australian tennis player Luke Saville earlier this month, will contest her eighth Australian Open main draw. He knew how to be Top 20 and in 2022 he will seek recovery after injuries.

EnglishThe 23-year-old will play her third Australian Open main draw and is ranked 140th in the world after winning five WTA matches in 2021, her best year.

SandersThe 27-year-old became No. 119 in the world in October, the best of his career. He will return to the main draw for the first time since 2016.
