BARCELONA – Clément Lenglet and Dani Alves will not join Barcelona’s training sessions this Tuesday after having tested positive for Covid-19, as confirmed by the club itself, and will remain confined in their homes. Having been affected during the Christmas holidays, there is no risk that they could have infected their teammates, although Barça plans this Tuesday, before the first preparatory session, to carry out tests on the entire squad.
The French center-back reported his positive to the club on Sunday, while he was in his country and will have to remain isolated for a week, so he will not be able to play next Sunday in Mallorca and, probably, he will not be expected in the match of Cup of January 5 against Linares.
In the case of Alves, who could not yet play against Mallorca because he could not be registered until Monday, his debut will be delayed at least until January 8, when Barça visit Granada in the League.
Considering the appearance of several cases in the world of sport, at the Camp Nou there is some concern about the tests that must be carried out on Tuesday, noting how, without going any further, at Espanyol seven positive cases were announced this Monday, being five of them (unidentified) of players from the squad and the other two from the coaching staff.
Xavi, waiting for the results of the tests, already knows that this Sunday he will not be able to count on the contest of Busquets and Gavi (sanctioned) and the injured Sergi Roberto, Memphis and Braithwaite, in addition to Lenglet. Pedri and Ansu Fati, in the final stretch of their recovery, remain in doubt although in the case of the youth squad they do not want to take any risk and their reappearance is contemplated to be postponed at least one week.
