Utah tied for best points in first half of Rose Bowl

Fast-paced first half at the Rose Bowl; points, lots of touchdown passes, and mistakes that cost points

The second quarter of Rose bowl between the universities of Utah Utes Y Ohio State they were crazy minutes.

Six annotations, three per side; in two and a half minutes there were five touchdowns. To that wave we must add two more Utes in the first episode.

The 35 points in the first half of Utah tied for best first-half mark in history of Rose Bowl (Stanford vs Iowa, 2016) and tied for second in either half of this winter classic (41 from Oregon vs. Florida State, 2015 and 35 from USC vs. Ohio State, 1973).

This is the first game of the season between Power 5 teams in which both teams combine for at least 21 points in a quarter.

With minutes remaining, Utah has a 52-5 winning record when leading at halftime by 14 or more points under Kyle Whittingham (since 2004). The last loss under these circumstances was in Washington last season (4-0 this time).

Was the eighth time Ohio State has allowed 35 or more points in a bowl. Buckeyes’ mark for points allowed is 52, from last year’s CFP National Championship against Alabama.
