WTA 250 from Melbourne, the Osaka and Halep stopover for Australia

In the shadows of the Adelaide WTA 500, the promising tournament that will kick off the season for the women’s circuit, Naomi Osaka (13ª) and Simona Halep (20ª) will be present at the Melbourne Summer Set as a prelude to the Australian Open.

The renowned tennis players will participate in Melbourne 1: the Japanese, who has not competed since the US Open, part as a favorite to the title and will debut against French Alize Cornet (61st) for a place in the second round.

The path for the four-time Grand Slam winner seems quite accessible at least until the quarterfinals, where she would not face any Top 40 tennis player except Liudmila Samsonova (38th). In the semifinals he may just appear Veronika Kudermetova (31st).

For its part, Halep starts as the second seed and will debut against a player from the qualy. The strongest crossing for the former World No. 1 can come to be in the quarterfinals, before Viktorija Golubic (43rd).

In parallel the Melbourne WTA 250 2, which has the American Jessica Pegula (18th) and Belgian Elise Mertens (21st) as the candidates to win the trophy.

Both tournaments will be part of the preparation for the first Grand Slam of the season.
