Indios leader sweeps RA12 on doubleheader in Professional Baseball League Roberto Clemente

The Mayagüez Indians swept a seven-game doubleheader against RA12 on Sunday to stay ahead in the fight for the lead down the stretch of the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League.

Earlier in the day, Daryl Thompson (1-0) pitched five scoreless innings of just one single and three strikeouts to guide the Indians to a 3-0 victory over RA12. The setback went to the record of Ricardo Velez (1-3), who allowed two runs and five hits in six innings.

Jim Haley hit a solo home run and Blaine Crim drove in a run on a sacrifice fly for the Indians.

In the second of the set, Haley hit a two-run RBI double and Crim added a solo home run to lead the Indians 7-2 victory. Carlos Francisco won (2-1) with a blank entry and a third. Alexuan Vega (1-2) lost by allowing three touchdowns and four hits in one and a third innings.

In Caguas, the Criollos defeated the Cangrejeros de Santurce 4-1 to stay in the battle for first place on the circuit.

Johneswhy Fargas hit a solo home run, Luis Vázquez rang a RBI double and Engel Beltré brought two more to the plate with a double in the second inning for the Criollos.

The victory went to Mitch Lively (1-0) by throwing five innings and two thirds of a single career and six strikeouts, while the loss went to the record of Héctor Hernández (1-2), who allowed three touchdowns and seven hits in six work tickets.

Mayagüez maintains the top of the circuit with a 20-10 mark, closely followed by Criollos de Caguas with 20-11, Santurce will no longer play in the two remaining days and concludes his season with 17-15 in third place, Gigantes de Carolina with a 12-18 record have also secured their qualification to the semifinals, and RA12 is eliminated with a 8-23 record.
