José Siri guides Gigantes to win over Águilas in Dominican League

Houston Astros player José Siri hit a tie-breaking sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning, and the Cibao Giants defeated the Cibaeñas Eagles 8-7 on Tuesday to end their three-game winning streak and reaffirm the lead in the Round Robin, which grants two tickets to the final of the Dominican Baseball League.

Siri also hit a two-run homer to total three RBIs and lead the Giants’ attack, to which Hanser Alberto contributed two hits and two RBIs.

Juan Minaya (1-0) scored the victory with a sharp relief of two blank episodes with five strikeouts, and Yohan Ramírez (0-1) lost after admitting the difference run in one chapter and a third of work.

In San Pedro de Macorís, a five-touchdown attack in the second inning resulted in the Tigres del Licey 7-2 victory over the Estrellas Orientales.

Former Major League Baseball pitcher Ervin Santana (1-0) retired five innings of two runs and three hits to win the game. Edwin Uceta (0-1) took the loss with five runs and five hits in 1 2/3 inning.

Anderson Tejada went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, Peter O’Brien hit a two-run RBI double and Sergio Alcántara drove in one more with a double to lead the Tigers’ offense.

With 11 matches to be played, the Gigantes del Cibao lead the Round Robin with a 5-2 record, followed by the Tigres del Licey (4-3), the Águilas Cibaeñas (3-4) and the Estrellas Orientales (2-5) .
