Nadal arrives at the Australian Open with his 89th title

Rafael Nadal (6th in the world, first seed) was crowned ATP 250 Melbourne champion by beating Maxime Cressy (114 °) 7-6 (6) and 6-3 in the definition. First title for the manacorí since Rome 2021.

Nadal did not give up sets throughout the week: he beat Berankis 6-2 7-5, advanced to the quarterfinals against WO de Griekspoor and in the semifinals he beat Rusuuvuori 6-4 7-5. It is the 89th title in his career.

This week, Nadal (35 years old) will not compete and will refine details for the Australian Open, which will mean a return to play a Grand Slam after his absences at Wimbledon and the US Open. Nadal is even with Federer (he will not play the AO) and Djokovic (his participation in Melbourne still uncertain) in number of majors.
