CAGUAS, Puerto Rico – Jancarlos Cintrón hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to support a brilliant start from Yordy Cabrera, and the Caguas Criollos took a two-game-to-one lead in their best-of-seven semifinal series in the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League of Puerto Rico.
The Criollos defeated the Cangrejeros 1-0, a team that has only been able to score one run in three games in a total of 35 innings, after winning 1-0 in 17 innings in the previous game.
Cabrera (1-0) completed six scoreless innings shooting five hits and six strikeouts for the win, and Luis Leroy Cruz (0-1) lost, despite allowing only one hit and one run in five solid innings.
The Carolina Giants scored three runs in the same first inning to support Oddy Nunez’s solid start, and defeated the Mayagüez Indians 5-3 to cut their semifinal series deficit to one game on two.
Nunez (1-0) allowed only one run and one hit in his five-inning effort to claim the victory, and Robby Rowland (0-1) lost after conceding three touchdowns in just one performance inning.
Anthony Garcia was 4-2 with two RBIs, Bryan Torres was 5-for-4 with an RBI and Brian Navarreto was 2-for-5 with an RBI to lead the winners’ offense.
