NEW YORK – The New York Yankees promoted Rachel Balkovec to manager of Class A affiliate Tampa on Sunday, becoming the first female manager of a Major League affiliate, according to two people familiar with the move.
The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team has yet to announce the move.
Balkovec, 34, came to the Yankees organization as a minor league hitting instructor in 2019. Her first professional baseball job was with the St. Louis Cardinals as a conditioning instructor in 2012.
The Athletic was the first outlet to report Balkovec’s rise.
