Buccaneers lose Richard Sherman for the season

The cornerback hits Tampa Bay’s injured reserve list for the second time this year, making it impossible for him to return again this season.

TAMPA — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers they have placed the veteran cornerback Richard Sherman on injured reserve with an Achilles tendon injury, the team announced.

As this is the second time he has reached the injured reserve list, Sherman will not be able to return in the campaign. However, he will remain with the team throughout the postseason, continuing to assist the defensive backs, who have benefited from his presence since joining the team in Week 4, with various elements referring to him affectionately as “Coach Sherm“.

“It’s not how I wanted to end, but I’m grateful for the opportunity to re-equip myself,” he posted. Sherman in social networks. “I’m looking forward to continuing this journey with my teammates and coaching. Thank you for all the support throughout the season. The corps gave everything it had, and I’m grateful.”

Due to an extraordinary number of injuries to the cornerbacks of the Bucs, the five-time selected Pro bowl was forced into action immediately after signing with the team in late September, appearing in all but one snap in a 19-17 victory over the New england patriots on Oct. 3, including a third-quarter fumble recovery.

Sherman played three games in 12 games after being out of the league for 288 days, suffering a hamstring injury in Week 6 on the seventh play of the game against the Philadelphia Eagles, being sidelined for six weeks. He tried to come back in Week 10 against the Washington Football Team, but suffered a calf problem during warm-up and did not participate.

He returned in Week 14, helping the Bucs in substitution packages, and lined up at safety due to injuries, and the fact that the Bucs they did not count on him then suspended Mike Edwards. An interception was scored Josh Allen in the second period of the victory of the Bucs by 33-27 of additional time on the Buffalo bills.

Sherman saw action for the last time in Week 16 against the Carolina Panthers, appearing on just three snaps after suffering an Achilles tendon injury while covering tight end Tommy Tremble on a cross path. He finished the season with 11 tackles, one interception, and one fumble recovery.

In addition, the Bucs activated outside linebacker Shaq Barrett from the reserve/COVID-19 list, paving the way for his return this week after a medial collateral and anterior cruciate ligament sprain suffered in Week 15. They also activated kicker from the practice squad Jose Borregales from the reserve/COVID-19 list and signed the wide receiver John Hurst to the practice squad.
